All-on-Four dental implants are a proven leading-edge treatment option for patients requiring a full replacement for their top, bottom, or both sets of teeth. The All-on-Four technique uses four strategically-placed dental implants to do largely the same job that 10-14 implants would in the traditional method.
This not only saves a considerable amount of time—the operation can usually be finished in as little as a single visit per set of teeth—but, not surprisingly, cuts down on overall recovery time as physical trauma is significantly reduced.
Also, because only four implants are being installed for a row of teeth, the operation generally comes at a reduced cost to the patient.
How do All-on-Four dental implants work?
All-on-Four implants are far superior to dentures in that they are a permanent solution for full row teeth replacement that, on the whole, looks and acts the same as organic teeth. While not all patients qualify for All-on-Four dental implants, the technique is generally regarded as a better alternative for most patients largely because the All-on-Four method is both less invasive and less expensive – in more ways than one.
Less invasive techniques tend to require less time off from work, allowing patients to resume their normal lives sooner and reducing the need for time off from work.
As with other implants, All-on-Four sets still require as many as three to six months to fully fuse to the jaw; however, because there are fewer drill sites it is reasonable to expect the fusing process to be somewhat quicker than with the 14 traditional implants.
It is important to note that as with any dental implant, All-on-Four dental implants require a sufficient amount of bone mass for support. Serious complications can arise if implants are installed on weak or insufficient bone structures. As such, it may be necessary to reinforce bone tissue before dental implants are installed to safeguard the longevity of the implants and the wellbeing of the patient.
Additional preparations may be required in the event that the patient suffers from other ailments such as periodontal disease. Infections must be treated before surgery to prevent worsening conditions.
Finally, in a fairly large number of cases, it may be safer and more effective to include additional implants for an all-on-6 or all-on-8 procedure.
